MICHELLE | LOVE ARTISAN

My name is Michelle. I am currently working at LoveArtisan I'm the operations manager.

What was your drive to enter into contemporary African furniture offerings?

So first, I'd like to give credit where credit is due and give praise to my boss because this is all her baby when LoveArtisan starting out, it was a way for the company to create job opportunities for the local artisans. Africa is blessed with a whole lot of different cultures, a lot of different fabrics. And we had wanted to incorporate that in a way that people can also appreciate it. Yeah.

How do you feel everytime you see your furniture in the wild and the love that goes with it?

It's quite exhilarating to be honest. Because from one small idea, came the growth of an empire and not just making aesthetically pleasing pieces, but they're also quite comfortable and the work well, in every space.

What inspires you everyday to get up and create a piece of furniture?

Well, this economy, for starters. Other thing is the fact that our team is really lovely. And I'd wake up every day, not thinking about how it's such a chore for me to go into work because we've all incorporated really well. And it's such a beautiful family. Yes.

What would you consider the highlight of your success story so far?

So first I would say, the biggest success is the fact that we grew from such a small team of around 10 people to now we are about 24 people. And regardless of all the things that have been happening in the country, the elections, covid we've been able to support the whole team and keep everyone employed. And then the fact that we keep producing things, that people are absolutely in love with and they keep wanting to come back to buy more.

How does a phone help in your creative workflow and how do you use it?

First off, our workshop is based on Ngong Road and it's not quite easy for most of our clients to come all the way through. So, most of our business is on social media, how we use the phone, is the fact that we have a great quality camera, and we're able to take photos for clients to see the different pieces that we do. We're able to share with them the different fabric options and basically, all of us like the whole order process can be done online.

What was your impression when you unboxed the Phantom X2?

Well, first I would start with the fact that the packaging is really sleek and I have to say that it didn't disappoint in any way.

Which feature of the Phantom X2 do you feel is the most important for your daily workflow?

I'd have said camera, because well for the short period that we've had it and we've been able to use it, we've seen that it has great quality photos and that's one thing that works really well for our work where you'd like the clients to be able to see exactly what you're doing. For example, I'd say, again now fabrics were most cameras you wouldn't be able to get to get the exact color of what you trying take photos of, so, you know, this has been really great and then definitely the fact that it has ample storage, so we don't need to keep deleting and put....deleting photos and then taking off photos again, and that works really great.

On a scale of ‘it’s a bust’, ‘it’s worth a look’ or ‘it’s a no brainer’, where do you place the Phantom X2?

I would say it's a no-brainer because it ticks all the boxes that we need for our work a - the great quality camera, the storage, and also the fact that it's quite easy to maneuver around the phone.
